Custom Quilted Llama Pillow for Toddler's Room

By Casey Corey

Quilted Llama Pillow

Best part of designing a room for your baby or toddler? You get to make all the decisions. I've had so much fun designing both of my babies rooms. Alice has a pink solar system theme and Dylan has polar bear/arctic theme. And of course, while planning those rooms, I spent many hours on Pinterest planning each and every detail.

Remember the modern baby girl llama quilt? We had someone reach out for a masculine pillow version. They have a vibrant toddler boy and just recently upgraded his nursery to a big boy room. This llama pillow was perfect.

We used an exposed gold zipper so the cover easily comes on and off when it inevitably needs a machine wash- on the gentle cycle.

Quilted pillows are a really special addition to any room. They serve as back support in rocking chairs, as play pillows for hours of imaginative play, and as a soft, resting place for when those busy, beautiful heads finally lay down.

Reach out to casey@caseysheilaquilts.com to customize your quilted pillow. Also, any of our bib sets would easily adapt to a pillow. The Purple Dino Babies Bib Set or the Party Babies Bib Set would be especially awesome.

Baby Girl Llama Nursery Quilt

By Casey Corey

Baby Girl Llama Nursery Quilt

I had to make a baby girl flying geese quilt to balance out Dylan’s polar bear quilt. I saw this llama quilt and immediately knew this was it.  What’s not to adore? Lots of pinks, greens, whites, creams, yellows in cotton and linen.  It’s soft and textured, and everything you’re looking for in a quilt for your little one.

There are six fun blocks in this quilt. All of the arrows are solid colors: white, cream, pink, and green. The background fabrics are all patterned.  It's so fun to find a nice balance between all of the different fabric combinations. This modern baby quilt pattern really lets those combinations shine.

We were driving with both kids in the car the other day when we noticed these green doors on the historic Coral Gables water tower. The water tower was built by Coral Gables founder, George Merrick, in 1924 and was used until 1931 when Coral Gables began buying water from the City of Miami. Thee water tower was not an attractive structure so George Merrick commissioned a lighthouse exterior design to enclose the tower. Yep, it looks like a lighthouse but it’s landlocked and was certainly never used as one. It was a fun, historical lesson for the kids and plus, the green doors were a fun complement to the llama quilt.

I love using a solid color for the binding on these quilts. The binding seams the front and back of the quilt. It’s the most understated part of the quilt. We machine stitch the top of the binding down and then hand sew the back with a matching cotton thread. When it’s well done, it subtly complements the top and back of the quilt.

Currently: September

Currently: September

Gosh, getting this September Currents blog post just in under the wire. Can't believe it's almost October.  October might be my favorite month.  The start of the weather starting to cool down in Miami and the excitement about the holidays coming up (yes, I said it. Holidays!) Here's what we've been up to:

Watching VEEP. I thought this was going to have a lot more slap stick type humor, but it doesn't and I love it.

baby boy at the beach

Wanting to take the paddle board out to the beach.  We went this month without it and it was so much fun. It was Dylan's first time in the sand. He's a really cautious kid so I thought he'd hate it but he got right in there with Alice building/destroying sand castles.

Making an Uber Eats order for sushi tonight. Momma needs a break from cooking for the toddlers who only eat carbs and white things even though they were exposed to many vegetables as babies.

Sewing a Llama traditional flying geese quilt. Using lots of pinks and greens, cottons and linens, and a beautiful woven cotton in a deep, dark yellow for the binding.

Reading a little bit of How to Talk so Little Kids Will Listen at a time.

Loving Dylan's mobility. He's crawling around, walking with the assistance of a walker, and cruising the furniture. He's having so much fun and I love watching how happy he is to finally reach his toys on his own.

Feeling drained and excited. Pandemic life gets a bit monotonous but grateful for our many blessings and space and a partner who tries so hard. Really excited about planning some more beach trips before the weather gets too cold to get in the water.

Thinking I should probably put away the groceries now.
